Headband

Heandband is a slow-germinating strain. Seedlings can take 7–14 days to sprout. As with all other varieties, the seeds were selected by hand with care and attention, counted, and checked for proper ripeness. Nevertheless, the germination rate may be less than 100%. This may be due to the strain’s pedigree, as many of its ancestors were hermaphrodites. For this reason, it is particularly important to examine the female plants for male characteristics in the lower part during the first weeks of the flowering phase.

If you are not an experienced grower or cannot cope with setbacks, you should not purchase or cultivate this strain!

On the mother side of this cross, we have a Kosher (OG) Kush, which originated from Crockett and was distributed by DNA Genetics. It is a Kosher x OG Kush, which is why it is known as both Kosher OG and Kosher Kush.

On the father side, we have a True D(iesel) F2 male, which is a strain I created myself.

When it comes to Diesel, opinions are likely divided. Is it from Chem or OG? Both have different origins but were later released as hybrids, which is why many people often associate “Gas” with OG—even though Diesel, or Sour Diesel, originated from Greg Karzanowski’s (@chemdog_glass) famous Chemdog.

Maybe I should briefly touch on the “True D” lineage here.

The whole “name game” is always very complex, just like deciphering certain backstories, but I’ll do my best to provide you with a bit more clarity and transparency.

This hybrid was then pollinated with my own hand-selected Sour Kosher male, which in turn produced “True D” (Jungle Fuel x Sour Kosher). I’ll tell you a bit more about Sour Kosher later on.

Summary: The goal was to combine everything from Sour, Chem, OG, and Kosher/Headband, with a dash of “Newschool” from Gelato, to shorten the flowering time, achieve a denser structure, and create a strain that’s easy to process—e.g., into sift, bubble hash, or rosin—since OG & Sour aren’t exactly the highest-yielding “dumpers.”

About Topanga Canyon. What is it?

According to JJ Crossen (@justjjworldwide), who gave me the seeds back then, and asked Ivan (@JungleBoys), it’s an OG Kush. Hmm… Not really satisfying. So I asked @Skunkmasterflex1 again, since it was a collaboration between JungleBoys and him, and received this reply: “Topanga Canyon is a Pure Kush cut. […] No one knows exactly what Pure Kush is. It’s in the same family as OG and Triangle Kush, but they’re all different.”

Most people know OG from Josh D (@therealogkushstory), Kenji (@killdrama), and Matt Buba (@theebubakush), which really became famous thanks to @breal from @CypressHill. The band created the hype.
Triangle Kush, on the other hand, comes from Marty (@origins_tk_og).

Fletch from @ArchiveSeeds mentioned in one of his posts, “Topanga = Just another renamed OG cut that became popular in Southern California clubs around 2007/08. Just another OG.”

All of this can be very complex and confusing at times, but I’d like to summarize it to provide a better understanding of the origins of the genetics I work with.

But let’s move on…
The Mike Larry male that pollinated the Topanga Canyon in Jungle Fuel is, in turn, a Gelato #45 crossed with an Larry OG F8. So here we have Lemon Larry OG and Sour Diesel IBL again. You can see—OG and Sour Diesel keep mixing in. The GSC (Thin Mint) / Girl Scout Cookie is also present in the Gelato lineage, which has rarely shown up in the True D F2s.

Unlike Sour Diesel IBL and Lemon Larry OG, which lean more toward a tart lime flavor, Gelato 45 leans more toward an intense mint flavor, similar to what you might find in a Wedding Cake (Triangle Mints #23 = Triangle Kush x Animal Mints) by JBeezy (@seedjunkycrew).

The Sour Kosher male that pollinated the Jungle Fuel (Topanga Canyon x Mike Larry) came from regular seeds by Crockett (@therealcrockett420). It is an AJ Sour Diesel crossed with a Kosher Kush male. For those unfamiliar with AJ—it stands for A**hole Joe aka Joe Murray (@ajsourdiesel), who was known back then and remains known to this day for the infamous Sour Diesel. How can a clone be a regular?

As mentioned at the beginning, Crockett crossed his Kosher with an OG Kush to make the Kosher (OG) Kush available as regular seeds.

Now, of course, you might ask yourself: And what was the OG Kush hybrid that pollinated the Kosher?

I’ll tell you, folks, the rabbit hole runs deep, but if you’ve made it this far, hats off to you.

Crockett’s OG, which was used for the backcross, is a Kosher female crossed with a Kosher × Headband male—three generations (BX3) backcrossed to the original Kosher until it was most similar to it again.

Now, someone might be asking: What is Headband?

Headband is nothing more than an OG Kush crossed with a Sour Diesel.

You can see for yourselves—it’s a never-ending story.

Particularly significant flavor profiles in Headband are sour lime, eucalyptus, diesel & gas (car repair shop), as well as slightly earthy nuances with a certain skunk funk. ♥
